It’s getting cloudy, but there is no wind. It’s hard to breathe. I make 3 knots under full sails, I would like to have mps (do not confuse it with pms, which I have in abundance) – does someone have a spare one? (I am talking about an asymmetric spinnaker).
Bread moulded, eventually – I threw it away. I spilled tomato juice on stairs and my legs. I wiped the floor, took a shower and did a bit of washing. Tried to get some sleep meanwhile (I did not sleep much last night). “Swarms” of flying fish – in sunlight, they look as if they were made of silver.
20.00 Zulu, 12 50 S, 113 58 E, about 1000 km to Coconut Islands...
It reminds me of a song by Sting “a thousand miles...” Do you know it?
Seriously now, it got very cloudy at the sunset. Terrifying leaden clouds, as if someone cut them off with a knife at the bottom, full of blackness below the cut. Blackness that forecasts squall...
some time later:
... while I was keeping watch and my head fell out of fatigue... I saw, or rather experienced one of the most beautiful moments of my cruise so far. Water was so phosphorus that I had to wink my eyes when a pod of dolphins swam by. They jumped out of water in shades of red and green light, and every quick move they made looked as if fireworks were discharged underwater.
It crossed my mind that they look like torpedoes, and maybe such view brought up the idea of building a torpedo to sink ships for real (...) I stood up high on the deck to see them better. Two, maybe three metres from me, these wild animals, I mean, totally wild, which fight for survival every day, for food, now swam up to Tanasza, raced with the yacht, jumped out of water, shimmered, made me grin... How come that they wanted to approach me, and they knew when to depart? They departed and I wondered where to, how they can see in this darkness? How do they think, do they think at all? I should have Discovery Channel to find out, yet, nothing can match meeting them for real.
I recommend it.
I collect such pictures like pearls in my mind. I want to remember them when I am sitting in a traffic jam, in a crowded city, full of smog, in a car, amongst other, waiting for nobody-knows-what people who rush to nowhere... I want to remember this night, I want to be able to recall the dolphin which swam under my bow and jumped out of water. Ooooo, have you seen anything like that?!!!
