Do you know what I found out? The old, beautiful sailing ship, next to which Robert and myself had our photo taken, is the famous “Black Pearl” from The Pirates of the Caribbean. Huh, now you know. If you want to see the photo, it is available in gallery at my website!
Before I sailed out, I managed to get a nasty sunburn on my back while I was loading the pontoon onto my yacht... Now, I am suffering from shivers and I think I have a fever...I’m leaving without my favourite tool – a super tool. I hope someone needed it more. Usually it was Elvis, to whom I was moored, who took care of mine and Tanasza’s safety (he was especially helpful when Robert was staying with me: he would bring yachts close to each other so that Robert could cross over safely, he would close our “windows” when rain came and we were absent...), but he sometimes left the boat too, of course. I think I must have left my super tool (15-in-1, a must-have on a yacht) on the deck... It had been with me for so long. Once, I fell off the mast, but I didn’t let it slip out of my hand (we were so close :) )... It is a real shame. Still, I believe that closing a yacht should not, must not be required – I, alone, need to believe that people are honest...
one more thing... The night before sailing out, a rat took care of my food reserve. I was so happy thinking about that tiny bit of smoked cheese which I bought. The rat also ate my bread and chocolate and a Chinese noodle soup and a Prince Polo bar. No time to resupply, unfortunately. Thing to remember – eat what you can now, instead of keeping it for later :) J.
My last memories from land concern befriended Canadians whom I met accidently in a bakery, and who invited me to their catamaran in the bay. Robert, the owner, Shawna, his sweetheart, their friend Karl and crew member Nick, greeted me like a family member. We had a terrific time together and I could rest before the journey. I needed it, I needed to walk off the deck, to “clear” my mind, swim a bit early in the morning.... I got a cap from Shawna... I will wear it – you will see why when I picture it!
I slept through my first day at sea... I tried to read something out of a fresh pile of books, but sleep would wait on each subsequent page.PS. my mirror is missing. I wonder how long a woman can live without a mirror, even the tiniest one...?
The more I sail alone, the more I am convinced that although I love what I do, I would rather find myself in a large, clean bed, nestled, safe...
The weather between Venezuela and Columbia did not make it easy for me. The wind tore off the radar reflector, one of the waves rocked the yacht to the side to such an extent that an oven was ripped from its resting place. This, in turn, broke a shelf covering the main battery. Everything got wet... The weather improved today... Panama lies 450 nautical miles ahead of me...
