Yesterday, on Sunday, the 17th of May, evening, we reached an island 22 miles distant from St. Lucia. We’re on Martinique, a French island.
Captain Andrzej took command of the yacht. While we were sailing, the weather was good, waves were not too high and the sun was shining. When we were entering the Le Marin port, the engine stalled – one small cable got disconnected, and with the use of a pontoon and with the help of sailors from a neighbouring yacht, we managed to place the yacht next to a fuel pontoon. Then, we had dinner and slept, slept and slept!
In the morning, we set sail and, by the courtesy of the marina’s hosts, we didn’t have to pay for mooring. We still had some immigration-related issues (check-in formalities) to deal with, we ate breakfast and went by car to the beach! We’re on the beach right now. The two gentlemen are swimming in the water and I’m writing to you.
P.S. Robert passed a test for a good crew member, he was in a good shape although he didn’t fail to return to Neptune what he had eaten before setting off :)
After sunbathing, we visited the reserve, where there were lots of crabs –yuk! and it turns out that sightseeing and relaxing are a hard work because we’re exhausted and going to bed! Robert is already sleeping :)
My impressions about the island? Well, we spent too little time here to really get to know it, but I think that people don’t smile enough here.
Today, we were supposed to head to Dominica, but, after consulting Robert, I decided to return do St. Lucia. Why? Because at first, it took us 16 hours on sea and then, after intense sightseeing, another 24 hours of sailing without knowing what the weather will be like. So we returned to St. Lucia at night. Robert was snoring so loudly that I had to listen carefully if nothing had broken on the yacht :) I was steering almost all the way because I just couldn’t lay down having guests... I’m not used to having guests for whom I’m responsible... and it’s another challenge for me.
We entered Rodney Bay at about 5 in the morning. Since the last visit of the mechanic on the board of Tanasza, there is something wrong with the engine, but we’ve been getting along!
Boys fell asleep immediately, I worked a bit with my computer and after 2 hours I stood up to fix some things. Even at 11, it was hard to wake Robert up after the sailing. But after I managed to do it, we had lunch and went at the pool. Later, we had a nice meeting with Polish people from the neighbouring catamaran and... we set off! (Look out! I’m boasting! Jacek Reschke, the owner or the catamaran offering Caribbean charter sailing(
www.sailcaribbean.net), invited Robert for a trip – it would swing less, be faster, but still Robert chose to stay on Tanasza!!! :)
On Thursday, we sailed along the island, we saw a beautiful rainbow. This time, Robert took some seasickness pills and he wasn’t sick at all. After 2 hours of beautiful sailing, we moored in Marigot Bay. Robert helped me pump and launch the pontoon, mix the fuel with oil, and we headed for dinner in the bay.
